About the Schools
The schools supported by Extra Mile have met rigorous criteria and earned accreditation by the nationally respected Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Studies by the University of Pittsburgh have rated the schools as outstanding.

The assistance Extra Mile Education Foundation provides takes the form of school subsidies at two schools (St. Benedict the Moor in the Hill District & Sr. Thea Bowman Catholic Academy in Wilkinsburg), as well as scholarship grants to children attending select Catholic schools (Northside Catholic School, East Catholic in Forest Hills, St. John Bosco in Brookline, Sacred Heart in Shadyside, St. Raphael in Morningside, St. Rosalia in Greenfield, and Sr. Maria Goretti in Bloomfield).

Extra Mile’s schools currently serve over 600 children from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. The student population is predominantly African American and non-Catholic. More than 80% of our children qualify for the free or reduced federal government lunch program and 60% of our students live in single-parent homes.

Despite the difficulties that many students face, 95% of Extra Mile students attend school daily and are on task in the classroom. The parent participation in education conferences in nearly 98%.
