anard A. Pendleton graduated from St. Benedict the Moor nearly 16 years ago but the values he learned at school helped him thrive in high school, college and life. Janard found academic success at Central Catholic before heading to college. He graduated with Honors from Saint Vincent College where he received a Bachelor’s of Arts in Criminal Justice, and a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology. He also received his Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh, and is currently beginning his comprehensive examination for Ph.D. in Administrative and Policy Studies in the School of Education at the University of Pittsburgh.
Janard currently serves as the Director of Pursuing the Promise program (Triple P) at the University of Pittsburgh. Triple P specializes in working with students and families to create individualized strategies to ensure that participants enter into college prepared to excel academically, and with the desire to positively impact their communities and society at large. Mr. Pendleton spent last year working with students from St. Agnes, an Extra Mile school. In addition, he serves as an adjunct faculty member in the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Social Work, and at the Community College of Allegheny County.
Prior to serving as the director of the Triple P program, Mr. Pendleton was the Coordinator of Academic Counseling and Student Retention Services for the University of Pittsburgh’s Swanson School of Engineering, the director of a community afterschool program that focused on excellence in the areas of math and science, the Director of Intervention Services at One Small Step, Inc.-- a program that promoted academic success and physical well-being for African American males ages 7-18 while offering a character development curriculum, and a School Social Worker for the Pittsburgh Public School System.
