About the Schools
The schools supported by Extra Mile have met rigorous criteria and earned accreditation by the nationally respected Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Studies by the University of Pittsburgh have rated the schools as outstanding.

The assistance that Extra Mile Education Foundation provides takes the form of school subsidies at three schools–St. Benedict the Moor in the Hill District, Sr. Thea Bowman Catholic Academy in Wilkinsburg and Northside Catholic Assumption Academy in Brighton Heights. In addition, Extra Mile Education Foundation provides scholarship grants to children attending five other Catholic schools (East Catholic in Forest Hills, Sacred Heart in Shadyside, Sr. Maria Goretti in Bloomfield, Divine Mercy Academy in Monroeville and St. Joseph Catholic School in Verona) serving children from under-resourced areas.

Extra Mile’s schools currently serve over 600 children from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. The student population is predominantly African American and non-Catholic. More than 80% of our children qualify for the free or reduced federal government lunch program and 60% of our students live in single-parent homes.

Despite the difficulties that many students face, 95% of Extra Mile students attend school daily and are on task in the classroom. The parent participation in education conferences in nearly 98%.
